Why is there a part of me that wants to buy this? I mean even for $3600 it almost seems right in my twisted mind. I've yet to own a 12 cylinder. I've also yet to experience the repair costs of a rare and quirky BMW. I do own a slightly British car so how bad could it be? Probably bad. Anyone with knowledge about a 1991 BMW 850I? Discuss

If you have to ask...... you can't afford it. After 2 trips to the shop you will gladly pay $3000 to get rid if it. Offer the guy $1500 and abandon it when it breaks down.

I hope there's a reputable place to do a PPI. Otherwise, I vote CP.

It looks to be an auto, although it's not mentioned in the ad.

I have been told that BMW did some really dumb things with regards to the ecu in that car. I believe they have an extremely poor reputation for reliability and are very expensive to fix.

But I have not owned one so take that with a grain of salt.

Well it's not that I can't afford it, it's more of "if it's worth it".

I know it's not worth it, and I already have a second car that is currently broken down/abandon kinda. Not sure why I'm attracted to a failed bmw product..

I'm sure what you've said is very understated.

I love the 8-Series BMW. It's one of the few BMW that i love.
But the second pic of the engine makes me a little bit worried. It's a bit too dirty.

It has sort of the supermodel turned crack whore appeal. She still looks pretty good, she is now obtainable, yet you know she is seconds from destroying your life and hers. But, she is still a supermodel, so...

A dude up the street has a black one that appears to be in superb shape. In fact, he parks it on the street and often puts a cover on it. It does have a decent exhaust note.

My BMW mechanic told me the only way you can afford an 8-series, especially a V-12, is to be married to a BMW mechanic. That should tell you all you need to know. They are gorgeous, but maintenance nightmares.
